Sophie Toomey

Sophie has practised exclusively in criminal defence law since the early 2000’s; the last 11 years in her own practice in the Sydney CBD. She has represented clients in matters ranging from traffic offences to murder and everything in between. Her firm appears daily in NSW Courts in all jurisdictions as well as at NCAT and the NSW Crime Commission. She has enormous experience in trial matters and is a highly skilled advocate, appearing in all of her own defended hearings in the Local Court as well as in District Court sentences and Supreme Court bails. She is happiest on her feet in Court arguing for her clients.
Sophie’s approach to practice is that every client deserves the best possible defence. Her clients are involved in the process and kept informed with regular updates on their matters. Sophie has a reputation as someone who fights hard to ensure that her clients get the best possible outcome available to them. She is respected by her colleagues and by Magistrates and Judges alike for her practical approach to litigation and her extensive knowledge of criminal law.
Sophie has a law degree and a masters degree in conflict resolution. Prior to coming to the law Sophie worked as a journalist and TV producer as well as for various non government organisations including in Indonesia.
Outside of work Sophie has passionate about travel and her family. She loves to exercise making the most of her home by the beach.
